2018 Reserve Shiraz

Background

Geographe is a young wine region features a slightly warmer, drier growing conditions which is perfect for producing vibrant shiraz wines full of flavour. The fruit is sourced from the Barreca family vineyard in Donnybrook. The Barreca family are 5th generation grape growers who take great pride and care in producing us the some of the best shiraz fruit that we have seen in Australia.

The 2018 vintage was just perfect for ripening. A solid wet winter followed by a burst of hot weather in November was just the precursor for getting a great canopy started. Summer was warm without ever being really hot. Over the years you recognise these milder summer conditions really allow for full tannin ripeness. The fruit was in great condition with only a small crop providing for great flavour intensity. The colour development was outstanding from day one and apart from dealing with a higher than expected alcohol, the wine always showed something special.

Tasting Notes

Deep crimson colour with lifted spicy fruit characters and light peppery flavours. The palate is very generous and soft with the juicy flavours of ripe shiraz. A very easy drinking wine that will continue to develop in bottle over the coming years.
